Iran box office: ‘Negar’ rules this week

Rambod Javan’s ‘Nagar’ has grabbed the first spot for this week at Iran local box office.

According to a local media published Thursday, the movie grossed 5,911,410,000 rials for the period between 14 September to 21 September.

‘Negar’ is Javan’s fourth work and is scheduled to be premiered at the 35th Fajr Film Festival.

The picture’s cast includes names such as Negar Javaherian, Mohammad Reza Foroutan, Mani Haqiqi, Ashkan Khatibi, Peyman Moadi, Alireza Aqakhani, Atila Pesyani and Alireza Shoja Nouri.

‘Negar’ tells the story of a girl whose economically-struggling father dies due to excessive pressure in life. Fishy circumstances surrounding the case lead her to review the last days of the man's life in order to understand the origin of his story.

Meanwhile, ‘Sharmin and I’ by Bijan Shirmarz gained the second place among other films making its debut as the first runner this week with ticket sales of 3,044,730,000 rials.  

The movie narrates the story of a young girl named Tina who believes in her aunt’s prophecy. It criticizes superstition in a comical manner.

Vishka Asayesh, Sahar Qoreishi, Pejman Bazeqi, Nima Shahrokh-Shahi, Gohar Kheir-Andish and Majid Salehi are among the cast members of the movie.

‘Oxidan’ by Hamed Mohammadi won the third place.

“Knowing a simple visa issuance is such a hassle, Aslan would have never fallen in love,” ‘Oxidan’ synopsis reads.

The picture’s cast includes Javad Ezzati, Amir Jafari, Shabnam Moqaddami, Shaqayeq Dehqani, Reza Behboudi, Linda Kiani and Ali Ostadi.

Payam Karami’s ‘The Hot Summer’ came in the fourth place.  Starring Parinaz Izadyar and Saber Abar, the film is about Nasrin whose domestic life is not happy.

‘Untaken Paths’ a film by Tahmineh Milani rounds out the top five Iranian films at the country’s local box office for this week.

Mali, a young girl, meets Sia and starts a secret relationship with him. Soon Mali’s traditional family finds out about their relationship, the flick’s synopsis read.
